Schools Fundraising
Fundraise with your school to support children and young people in Birmingham, facing loss or trauma.

This October, to mark World Mental Health Day (10th October), we’re asking schools across Birmingham to take part in a Be True to You Day! where pupils wear something that says something about who they are, makes them feel happy, confident, or simply brings a smile to their face.
You can take part in just 3 simple steps:
- Choose a day in October that works best for your school.
- Register your event here.
- Encourage pupils and staff to take part by wearing something that they love in exchange for a donation to our charity — whether that’s bright colours, a favourite outfit, or something that reflects their personality. It’s all about celebrating positivity and wellbeing together as a school community.
Where possible, we would be delighted to visit your school to help launch your fundraising with a short assembly about our work and the difference your support will make.
Fundraising activities like this are a great way for pupils to get involved in something meaningful. They help children develop empathy, understand the importance of mental health, and experience the pride that comes from making a positive difference in their wider community.
Here’s some feedback from a school who recently held a sponsored walk for us…
“Fundraising for Beyond the Horizon made a lasting impact on the children and staff at Colmore Juniors. As children within our school have been directly supported by the charity, it is a cause that is very close to our hearts. The introductory assembly explained the work of Beyond the Horizon in a clear, child-friendly way and its key messages around grief and loss helped our children to understand what some of their friends might be going through, as well as presenting them with the opportunity to help. We had a brilliant day doing our sponsored walk and were so proud of the money we raised!” Assistant Headteacher, Colmore Junior School
The money you raise will directly support our work with children, young people, and families in Birmingham who are coping with bereavement and trauma, ensuring they receive timely and specialist support when they need it most.
Other Fundraising Ideas
- Hold a regular dress-down day and ask everyone to donate £1 to take part.
- Run a bake sale at lunchtime or after school. You could even add a competition element to encourage more people to join in.
- Organise a sponsored walk – a great way to get pupils active while raising vital funds.
- Host a quiz or game afternoon, where pupils donate to take part. This works brilliantly as an end-of-term activity.
- Run a book or toy swap, asking pupils to bring in an item in good condition and make a small donation to join the swap.
- Choose us as your Charity of the Year, helping your whole school community come together to support children and young people through a series of activities across the year.
Where resources allow, we’re also happy to visit your school and deliver an assembly so pupils can see the real difference their support makes to other children.

Your fundraising makes a real difference:
£100 could help pay for a family to attend an activity day, where they can connect with others who share similar experiences.
£300 could fund six sessions of support for a bereaved family in their home, helping them communicate and feel more confident talking about their grief.
£1000 would pay for a child to have 20 sessions of individual therapy, giving them a safe space to express their emotions around their experiences building resilience and protecting their mental health.
Did you know, we also support schools through our one to one therapy services, bereavement groups and training and resources for staff.
